Harry Gross: Adding liability coverage

Dear Harry: My wife and I are in our 60s and retired. We own one car, which is recorded in my name alone. My wife has a driver's license, but she has not driven in years. If I were in a bad accident, and we were sued for more than our insurance coverage, would our jointly owned IRAs, CDs and stocks be up for grabs? How about those in her name alone? A home is not in the picture, because we're renters. I'm really very concerned about this.
