Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Is the Worst: Sporting News

It's fair to say that Ruben Amaro and the Phillies are struggling, but the Sporting News ranked him dead last out of all general managers in Major League Baseball. Ouch.

Personally, I applaud Amaro for some of his moves in the last offseason. He signed Marlon Byrd who's playing well (.283, 6 HR, 29 RBI) resigned Carlos Ruiz (.258, 10 RBI) who does a great job handling the pitching staff.

But he didn't deliver the Christmas presents that Phillies fans were hoping for during free agency, and his remarkable deal for Cliff Lee feels like a long, long time ago. If you're going to have the third-highest payroll in the league ($184 million), you'd better have something to show for it. Read more about this story on PBJ.com.
