The Roots and Nas Dominate Picnic

The fourth annual Roots Picnic took place on Saturday, under (mostly) sunny skies. More than 6,000 jam-packed fans got to take in acts as diverse as Esperanza Spalding, Man Man, Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller, but the defining moment of the whole festival was undoubtedly the headliners: Rapping royalty in the form of the heavy-flowing Nas backed by the host Legendary Roots Crew.

Together on stage, this hip-hop summit produced some memorable moments on a day packed with them. And the Nas/Roots combo wasn't the only inspired collaboration: Earlier in the day, Philly's own Beanie Sigel joined with cross-state rival Wiz Khalifa for a vocal jam session.

Naturally, the national media were out in force, trying to capture the essence of what has come to make this event so special. Short of Mr. Springsteen up the NJ Turnpike, has ever a musical force been more representative and beneficial to its hometown?
