Roof of Apartment Building and Pub Partially Collapses

Officials are investigating a partial roof collapse at a building in South Philadelphia.

The roof of the three-story building collapsed on Front and Christian Streets around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The building contains the For Petes Sake Pub on the first floor and apartments on the second and third. Workers were on the roof when the collapse occurred. No one was injured however and all workers have been accounted for.

According to officials with Licenses and Inspections, construction work was occurring at the location at the time of the accident. The owners of the building had a zoning permit for interior renovations of the second and third floor as well as the expansion of the bar and kitchen on the first floor.

An inspection was completed at the building back on August 12 and a permit was posted. Peterbuilt Construction LLC is the listed contractor for the building.

Officials with PGW, PECO and L&I are investigating the accident, according to an L&I spokesperson.

"This is a permitted construction site," the spokesperson wrote. "The Department will investigate and take necessary action to ensure the site is made safe by the property owner/contractor."
