8/06: A Soulful Surfer, with Some Local Rock and a Movie on the Side

ROCK OUT, IRISH STYLE: Since Grape Street Pub in Manayunk closed in 2008, the area has suffered a lack of new and local music. But not anymore. Kildare’s is picking up the slack each and every Thursday night starting at 9 p.m. This week will feature the music of Persia Sound at 9 p.m., Phantasm at 10 p.m. and Grind City at 11 p.m. Be there when music returns to Manayunk.

MOVE BY YOURSELF: The funk is coming to Philly tonight when the one and only Donavon Frankenreiter heads into town. He moved to Hawaii to become a pro surfer and rented a house from the Jack Johnson's parents  -- The rest is history. Donavon will bring the funk (and the moustache) to the TLA tonight in a 9 p.m. show. Tickets are $17.

IT’S GOING TO BE A SHOW: A wise man once said “get your popcorn ready” and we’re taking that advise to heart tonight when we head down the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing for a screening under the stars.  "The Express: The Ernie Davis Story"  will shown tonight at 8 p.m (or whenever it gets dark). Tickets to the screening are free.
