Pennsylvania Town Sues for Control of Disputed Sewer Plant

A Pennsylvania township is suing for control of a private sewage treatment plant that's been mired in an estate dispute.

The Press-Enterprise reports Monday that Orange Township, Columbia County has spent more than $8,000 on the Clear-Run plant since owner Robert Schumacher Sr.'s June death.

Officials expect to spend $30,000 annually.

Schumacher left the plant to a son with special needs under a 2010 will. A 2013 will left it to various relatives, including older son Ralph Schumacher.

The township is questioning the authenticity of the 2013 will. Ralph Schumacher argues the 2010 will is invalid.

The Clear-Run plant serves 54 homes. The state deemed it a "public health hazard," leading to the township takeover.

The estate dispute is causing confusion about where residents should send payments.
