As we reported one month ago, Jack Wills will be bringing its British collegiate style to our city by opening a Philly store location this fall. The U.K. brand, popular among preppy, college-aged Brits, produces a similar output as Abercrombie & Fitch, complete with barely-there minis and sexually-charged ad campaigns.
Citybizlist reports that the new Jack Wills store has secured a spot at 1617 Walnut Street, which is right next door to Destination Maternity and across the street from City Sports. The first U.S. Jack Wills store to be opened outside of New England, the Philly shop will occupy 6,800 square feet of retail space and will open sometime in autumn.
Our city's large demographic of college students can be thanked for the brand's decision to expand here: "Philadelphia, with its student population of over 110,000 strong and 28 colleges and universities in the region is the ideal choice for Jack Wills' expansion in the US," says Michelle Shannon, VP of Marketing for the Center City District/Co- Chair Philadelphia Retail Marketing Alliance (PRMA).
Doc Martens will also be opening a store on Walnut Street; it will be located at 1710 Walnut Street, in the former home of Design Within Reach.
