How to Shop for the Perfect Wedding Gown

Even before the cult show "Say Yes to the Dress" made Kleinfeld Bridal famous, the salon — nestled on a bustling side street in downtown New York — was already a go-to destination for brides all over the world for its selection. Visiting the salon is to be transported into a world of all things satin, ivory and dazzling, making it a great example of the slightly overwhelming rush any bride gets when shopping for the perfect dress.

We talked to the mastermind behind the authoritative bridal gown source, co-owner and president Mara Urshel, who, along with co-owner and CEO, Ronnie Rothstein, bought Kleinfeld Bridal (which had been a local institution since World War II) in 1999.

Urshel walked us through the process of one of the most significant shopping trips a woman will make, from her recommendation of whom to bring on your visit — and who not to bring — to today's most timeless silhouettes and on-trend accessories.
