Bela Shehu's Enigmatic Muse

This Friday, April 8, the fashions of nine local designers will share the runway with Ralph Rucci during PIFA's Couture Runway Show. In anticipation of the big event, we've contacted a handful of the designers for a taste of what to expect to see strutting down the catwalk.

Following yesterday's interview with Priscilla Costa, we've reached out to designer Bela Shehu, the creative force behind Nino Brand. True to form, Shehu's collection for PIFA will involve cocoon-like silhouettes, muted colors, and architectural shapes.

How long did it take you to design and create your collection for PIFA?
This mini collection took about six weeks to come to life. No part of it was really difficult - the whole project was a lot of fun!

Can you describe your collection in five words?
Elegant, silent, rejuvenating, influential, magical.

How does your PIFA collection differ from your usual design aesthetic/ethos?
It doesn't. I always design with the same woman in mind. It is [she] who drives my creative motor.

What can you tell us about this woman?
She's well-read and traveled. She likes her morning espresso with a rich bitter crema. She likes to draw herself nude, but doesn't show the sketches to anyone. She's a forward thinker!

The PIFA Couture Runway Show will take place on April 8, 2011, at 8:00 p.m; tickets range from $25-$100.
