Pregnant Kate Continuing to “Feel Better”

Duchess of Cambridge will remain in hospital at present, according to Royal spokesman.

Kate, The Duchess of Cambridge, is "continuing to feel better" as she spends a second day at London's King Edward VII Hospital, according to St. James's Palace. Prince William paid a visit to the bedside of his wife and mother-to-be of a future British monarch, Tuesday.

"The Duchess of Cambridge is continuing to feel better," a St. James's Palace spokesman said. "She and the Duke are immensely grateful for the good wishes they have received. She will remain in hospital at present and will continue to be treated for Hyperemesis Gravidarum."

The rare medical condition affects 2 percent of all pregnant mothers and causes severe nausea and vomiting. Hospitalization is often required because of concern over dehydration and to ensure the mother receives proper nutrition.

The fetus is rarely affected by the condition, as long as the mother gets proper treatment and rest, according to NBC’s chief medical editor, Dr. Nancy Snyderman.

The announcement that an heir to the British throne is on the way sent media outlets and Royal watchers into a frenzy Monday, with speculation rife over the baby's sex, a possible name, and what Kate will wear during her pregnancy. The news caps a landmark year for the United Kingdom, which celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubliee and hosted the Olympic Games in London over the summer.

Ben Fogle, a friend of the royal couple, told "Today" that the impending birth has refocused attention on Britain: "The world is already descending on London, and everyone has a huge smile on their face."
