    Ashton & Demi, Tobey & More Gather For Service Commitment

    As President Elect Barack Obama lead by example by painting walls at the Sasha Bruce House on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day morning before his Inauguration, several big celebs and civic leaders gathered early at Ballou Senior High School in Washington DC’s Anacostia neighborhood to call for a “New Era Of Service” lead by ServiceNation.

    Toby Maguire announced the launch of a ServiceNation Ambassador’s Council that will seek to recruit Hollywood stars to speak out for and enlist folks in national service.

    Meanwhile, Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore were on hand to introduce a video they created, “The Presidential Pledge,” in which several of their Hollywood friends committed themselves to a renewed pledge to public service and civic duty.

    Lisa Paulsen, President & CEO of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), was present to announce that EIF would be working with ServiceNation going forward to galvanize the entertainment world to mobilize Americans to volunteer and serve.

    “The Entertainment Industy Foundation is thrilled to team with ServiceNation to advance a new era in which we all serve America by serving each other,” Lisa stated.

    Also on hand to speak were Martin Luther King III, Congressman John Lewis, incoming Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, California First Lady Maria Shriver, Alan Khazei of ServiceNation coalition organization Be The Change, Inc., Congressman George Miller, Congresswoman Doris Matsui, Laysha Ward of the Target Foundation (corporate sponsor of ServiceNation) and Time Magazine Managing Editor Richard Stengel.

    After the morning’s presentation, none other than Superman himself, Brandon Routh, lead a group of public school students and volunteers on a march down the block from Ballou High School to Simon Elementary school, for a day of community service work.
