John Hawkes & Yasiin "Mos Def" Bey on for "Jackie Brown" Prequel

One of them is coming off rave reviews at Sundance, the other just underwent a name change that many of his fans haven't yet caught up with. Together, they're gonna fill the shoes of Robert De Niro and Samuel L. Jackson.

John Hawkes and Yasiin Bey (the rapper formerly known as Mos Def) have signed on for an adaptation of Elmore Leonard's "The Switch," reported Variety. The script was adapted by Dan Shechter, who will also direct. Hawkes and Bey is an inspired pairing, as both are exceptionally talented actors (and musicians), and share a similar vibe despite coming from two very different backgrounds.

The book centers around Louis Gara and Ordell Robbie, the characters portrayed by De Niro and Jackson in Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown," which was an adaptation of Leonard's "Rum Punch."

The story will find our heroes teaming up to kidnap the wife of a dirty Detroit real estate magnate (as if there were another kind). When the husband refuses to pay, the crooks and the wife join forces to exact revenge. Yes, this is basically the plot of "Ruthless People," but that was lifted from a story by O. Henry.

Hawkes work in " The Surrogate," as a disabled man who hires a sex surrogate to help him lose his virginity, just debuted at Sundance, and already has people talking Oscar.
