Baskett was the odd man out of the Birds' wide receiving corps.

A flock of Eagles won’t soar in the team’s preseason opener against Jacksonville.

Putting guys on the PUP aside, some notable contributors won’t be in pads including WR Hank Baskett, RB Mike Bell, RB J.J. Arrington and DB Macho Harris.

Head coach Andy Reid also announced Thursday that C/G Nick Cole, DT Antonio Dixon and T Fenuki Tupuo also won’t be a go for the Jags game Friday.

Normally preseason openers are total sleepers. It’s not like any of the no-gos are dynamic forces on the gridiron that would have possibly changed that but still it would be nice to see how newcomers like Bell and Arrington look in the backfield and also to see how Baskett is rotated in and out of the offensive scheme.

Let’s be honest. I mentioned Hank because I, like many of you, wanted to see Kendra and the baby rocking the Eagles green again. No word if they will be in the house.

As for what to expect from Birds in uniform, Reid said Kevin Kolb will be under center in the first quarter, Mike Vick will then handle QB duties until giving way to third-stringer Mike Kafka midway through the third quarter.

Sounds like Reid isn’t expecting many fireworks though:

"We look forward to having the opportunity to play Jacksonville. It will be good, for no other reason, that to play a team other than ourselves and get a feel of how our players respond in a game and have that on their resume as we continue the evaluation process throughout camp."

Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Linc.
