Car Sliding on Icy Road Strikes Montgomery County Officer Investigating Crash: Police

An out-of-control car on an icy road crashed into a police officer responding to an earlier crash along a Montgomery County road Thursday morning leaving the officer with internal injuries, according to police.

The Cheltenham Township Police officer was placing down flares in the roadway to warn other drivers to an earlier crash along Washington Lane near Township Line Road in Wyncote, Pennsylvania around 6:20 a.m. when another passing vehicle struck him, township police said.

The force of the crash tossed the officer onto the side of the road, said investigators.

The unidentified officer was rushed to Abington Memorial Hospital's Trauma Center with multiple internal injuries, said police. The officer remained in stable condition Thursday morning.

An initial investigation revealed that a driver approaching the accident scene lost control along the icy road of northbound Washington Lane and began to spin out of control, said police.

The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, said police.
