Oh Fooey! Susanna Foo Closing

Famous chef wants to spend more time with her family

Famous Philadelphia restaurateur Susanna Foo is locking the doors on the Walnut Street staple that bears her namesake, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Foo, 65, and her husband E-Hsin opened the restaurant along the 1500 block of Walnut Street in 1987 and quickly gained notoriety for her unique fusion cuisine.

She stressed that the economy was not a factor for the closure, telling the Inquirer that she wanted to spend more time with her family.

The restaurant is expected to operate until August, though a closing date has not been announced.

The Foos will be keeping their Radnor restaurant Susanna Foo Gourmet Kitchen, which is run by their son Gabriel.

Susanna Foo's closure marks the second high-profile restaurant to shut down along Walnut a.k.a. Rittenhouse Row. Brassier Perrier closed abruptly in January.
