    Jack's Firehouse

Settled in the heart of Fairmount’s dining district across the street from Eastern State Penitentiary, Jack’s is an old converted firehouse that serves up classic Americana, affordable BBQ and a variety of specialty sandwiches in a historic setting.

The dining room is the old firehouse garage with deep wood panels, cool gadgets on the walls and a classic-style bar with an old wooden crew boat hanging from the rafters. There’s seating on the front sidewalk and a shaded atrium around the side of the building.

Try a crabcake sandwich or the pecan-crusted catfish sandwich, both excellent. Entrees (priced between $12 and $15) include Pocono Springs Trout with red pepper sauce, Jack’s tongue-smackin’ ribs, a smoked BBQ platter with ribs, beef and pulled pork, and many more. Jack’s also serves tasty buttermilk biscuits with pineapple preserve with every meal. Keeping with the popular trend these days, Jack's uses fresh, homemade and locally grown ingredients. And they give you cookies with the bill. Nice.
