Major League Baseball has announced that Game 5 has been delayed until Wednesday, as confirmed by NBC 10's Jade McCarthy first on NBCPhiladelphia.com.

The announcement was made as the Philadelphia area continued to be pounded by rain, wind and even snow in some areas.

Rain and wind suspended Game 5 between the Phillies and Rays in the middle of the sixth inning on Monday night.

MLB is going to try and fit the rest of the game in on Wednesday night with the first pitch at 8:37 p.m.

"While obviously we want to finish Game 5 as soon as possible, the forecast for today does not allow for us to continue the game this evening," said Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig.

MLB will closely monitor Wednesday's forecast hourly. They will advise fans as soon as final decision on the schedule is made.

Fans holding tickets for Game 5 can use their stubs to gain re-entry once the game is resumed. Parking stubs and receipts can also be used for free parking once the game is replayed.

Whenever the game continues the Phils will be coming to bat with the game tied 2-2.

  • LISA Tuesday, Oct 28 at 5:40 PM FLAG COMMENT I THINK THAT THEY SOULD WIPE OUT THE 6TH INNING ALL TOGETHER AND RE-START AT THE 5TH INNING. THE RAIN MADE IT INPOSSIBLE FOR THE PLAYERS TO MAKE PLAYES. J ROLL MISSED A POP UP THAT ON ANY GIVEN DAY HE WOULD OF NEVER DROPED. GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!
  • momofphillyfans Tuesday, Oct 28 at 5:37 PM FLAG COMMENT The only good thing about the suspension is that the Phillies do have the advantage of having more at bats when the game resumes....I'm sure this will give the Rays and the fox announcers something to boo hoo about when the game ends and the phillies are the champs. I can hear it now, Poor little Rays they only lost because they couldn't bat as many times as the Phillies...remember girls you had your time before the game was ... MORE >
  • Jenna Tuesday, Oct 28 at 4:44 PM FLAG COMMENT They should have called the game long before they did. I think it was unfair to wait until the 6th inning. The only good thing is that when they pick it up again, we get 3 innings at bat to their 2. And maybe the cooler weather will throw TB off their game.
  • May Tuesday, Oct 28 at 3:45 PM FLAG COMMENT They should either postponed the game before it started, or called it before it became an official game. The conditions were deplorable. Fortunately none of the players had resulting injuries. Go Phillies.
