Mom, Beau Get Classes for Letting Girl Ride in Dog Cage

Giving a child what she want has landed a couple in parenting classes.

A Pennsylvania woman and her boyfriend must take parenting classes after they let the woman's 10-year-old daughter ride in a dog cage -- in the back of the man's pickup on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The couple was arrested after concerned motorists contacted police.

The defense attorney for 29-year-old Abby Carlson and 33-year-old Thomas Fissinger, both of Millvale, Pa. -- a suburb of Pittsburgh -- says the couple didn't mean to commit a crime on May 27. They simply let the girl ride in the cage, which was tied down, because she wanted to be with the dog inside it.

Shaler District Judge Robert Dzvonick agreed Thursday, though he questioned the defendants' judgment before giving them six weeks to take the classes, after which the charges could be dismissed.

The judge said, “God forbid your daughter asks for a Corvette and you go out and rob a bank.”
