The world's oldest living rabbit spends most of her days lounging in the sun and nibbling on hay in Silver Run, Md., owner Jennifer Russell told the Carrol County Times.

Russell said she received confirmation of her bunny's distinction from Guinness World Records this month.

Russell figures Heather is between 15 and 16 years old. She was adopted in 1995 with papers saying she was 2 years old. Most rabbits live to be 6 to 8 years old, Guinness said.

Heather was "a diva" in her prime, Russell said, growling if the cat got too close. Heather is still sassy but spends her days resting on a comforter and her evenings in Russell's arms.

Heather's vet credits Russell's excellent caretaking and good genes and factors for the bunny's extraordinarily long lifespan.

According to Guinness, the oldest rabbit on record was a wild rabbit named Flopsy, who lived to be 18 years and 10 months in Tasmania, Australia, in the 1960s.
