Feds: Philly Man Freed on Phony Document Arrested

Authorities allege man used forged documents to get out of prison

Federal authorities have arrested a Philadelphia man released from prison earlier this year on a purported court order that they say was later discovered to be have been forged.

The U.S. Marshals Service says 49-year-old Kevin William Small of Philadelphia was freed Jan. 5 from the state prison in Huntingdon due to documents supposedly vacating a 135-month tax fraud sentence. They say he was to serve the federal term after finishing time on state convictions in Delaware, Erie and Schuylkill counties as well as a parole violation.

Authorities said the documents were found to be forged and Small was arrested Monday on a warrant charging him with escape, forging a judicial signature and mail fraud.

A call to Small's attorney in his last state case was not immediately returned Monday.
