Girl Finds Small Gator Behind Her Home

Police have captured a 3-foot alligator that was discovered by a 7-year-old girl behind her home in central Pennsylvania.

The Evening Sun of Hanover reports Olivia Sullivan saw the reptile in her Penn Township, York County, backyard Sunday morning after she had taken the family's dog outside. She told her father, who initially didn't believe her.

Penn Township officers eventually captured the gator, which had made its way behind a wood pile.

Officer John Carbaugh called in several other officers to assist and they duct-taped the animal's mouth to be safe as they captured it.

"He was a strong bugger," Carbaugh told the paper. "I was surprised because it really took all the effort to get him still."

It's been taken to a private animal rescue organization in Manchester Township.
