Caleb Sturgis Suffers Concussion After Being Hit in Head by Punt During Warmups

PITTSBURGH — Caleb Sturgis won't play on Thursday night after suffering a concussion in warmups.

The veteran kicker was hit by an errant punt during warmups without a helmet on and will now have to clear the NFL's concussion protocol before he can return.

Cody Parkey will be the only kicker active for the preseason game against the Steelers.

Sturgis, 27, has clearly been ahead of Parkey, 24, during training camp and preseason. But now, Parkey will have at least one game to himself as Sturgis recovers.

Parkey ended up on the injured reserve in 2014 with a groin injury. The Eagles signed Sturgis to replace him, and after a rough start, the veteran had a good finish to the year.
