2017 NFL Draft Prospect Watch: JuJu Smith-Schuster Down, Christian McCaffrey Up

The Eagles are 2-0 with Carson Wentz under center and Jim Schwartz's defense playing extremely well.

With drops from the receivers and a lack of depth at corner, there will be needs when the 2017 NFL draft rolls around.

In our weekly prospect watch, we examine some offensive weapons and defensive backs that could help the Eagles in the future.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, USC, junior, WR, (6-2/220)
After a strong freshman campaign and a monster sophomore season, Smith-Schuster has struggled out of the gate in 2016. In Saturday's 27-10 loss to Stanford, Smith-Schuster had just three catches for 36 yards. So far this season, he has just 11 catches for 99 yards in three games. He is playing with a true freshman quarterback, clearly missing the Cleveland Browns' Week 3 starter, Cody Kessler.

Chris Godwin, Penn State, junior, WR, (6-1/205)
Godwin had his best game of the young season in a 34-27 win over Temple. The Delaware native hauled in seven catches for 117 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown. Godwin had an excellent sophomore year, catching 69 passes for 1,101 yards, a 16.0 yards per catch average.

Christian McCaffrey, Stanford, junior, RB, (6-0/200)
What else can you say about McCaffrey? This kid is a stud. He racked up 172 yards on 31 carries and a touchdown. He also added three catches for 66 yards and a score. McCaffrey is the most versatile back in this class. The best comparison I've seen is a bigger Brian Westbrook.

Nick Chubb, Georgia, junior, RB, (5-10/228)
Chubb is an elite prospect, but he's been struggling since his 32-for-222 performance against North Carolina in Week 1. He had just 63 yards on 19 carries in the Bulldogs' 28-27 win over Missouri. Week 1 seemed to put to bed any lingering questions over Chubb's health, but you have to hope his struggles are just temporary and not caused by symptoms of his gruesome knee injury from last season.

Sidney Jones, Washington, junior, CB, (6-0/181)
The Huskies' secondary is loaded with NFL talent. Their best corner is Jones, who had an interception last weekend against Portland State. OK, not the greatest competition but he basically ran the route for the receiver. The competition will stiffen for Jones in the coming weeks as Washington's Pac-12 schedule begins.

Marlon Humphrey, Alabama, junior, CB,
Saturday wasn't a banner day for Humphrey and the Crimson Tide's secondary. Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly threw for 412 yards and three touchdowns in Alabama's 48-43 win. Humphrey is big and athletic, but his biggest issue has been making plays on the ball. That showed up against the Rebels. That could be the trait that separates him and Teez Tabor, the highly-touted corner from Florida. Either Humphrey or Tabor will likely be the first defensive back off the board come April.
