Is Randy Wolf packing his bags for the east coast?
MLBTradeRumors is reporting that the New York Mets have shown interest in acquiring the 32-year-old ex-Phillie.
That’s right, the Mets.
Wolf told MLB.com’s Marty Noble that New York has “shown interest” in bringing the lefty back to the east coast.
The Mets have bolstered their bullpen with the already chatty Francisco Rodriguez and J.J. Putz and have their sight set on Wolf as a target for the starting rotation.
The news comes just hours after their National League East rival Philadelphia boosted their own rotation by adding Chan Ho Park to a one-year deal, while announcing Jamie Moyer will return to the team on a two-year near $16 million contract.
Wolf went 12-12 with a 3.98 ERA in 190.4 innings last season splitting time between the Padres and the Astros.
The former 2nd round draft pick in the 1997 amateur draft, spent eight seasons with the Phillies before heading to Los Angeles at the conclusion of the 2006 season. He missed most of that year and 2005 with arm issues.
Wolf was a fan favorite as shown by the “Wolf Pack” that lingered atop the 700 level at Veterans Stadium.
The Wolf-man was an All-Star in 2003, compiling a 69-60 record with Philadelphia.
