NBCPhiladelphia Sports - Howard Eskin
Sports Final's Howard Eskin thinks that Eddie Jordan's days as Sixers coach are numbered. And, sources said the team has already identified a number of potential coaching candidates.
It's about that time for the 76ers to dust off the ol' chopping block.
The Sixers are reportedly on the verge of cutting their Eds. The team plans on firing Head Coach Eddie Jordan and General Manager Ed Stefanski, according to the Inquirer and WIP's Howard Eskin.
Word has it that team owner and chairman of Comcast-Spectacor Ed Snider wanted to kick Jordan to the curb earlier this season. But, he wouldn’t can Jordan in the wake of firing former Flyers coach John Stevens in December, said the Inky.
Sixers GM Stefanski’s job is also in jeopardy as the man who brought Jordan into Philadelphia less then a year ago, sources told the Inky.
Last season, the Sixers finished the regular season at a respectable 41-41. They went on to lose an entertaining first-round playoff series to the eventual Eastern Conference champion Orlando Magic.
This year the "Sick-sers" currently sit, or should we say lay down, at a disappointing 23-40, sixth-worst in the East. Team sources reportedly told Philly.com that players “no longer believe” in what Jordan is teaching.
610 WIP's Howard Eskin reported on NBCPhiladelphia's Sports Final that insider sources told him the team already has a list of potential replacements for Jordan. On the team's list were Villanova's Jay Wright, former Knicks and Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy, former Bulls and Wizards head coach Doug Collins, and former Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson.
