Birds Ink Weaver to 3-Year Deal

Leonard Weaver's toughness has made him a fan favorite in Philly

The Eagles have agreed to terms on a three-year extension with Pro Bowl fullback Leonard Weaver, the team announced Friday.

“Leonard proved to be a versatile player for us last year from the fullback position,” said head coach Andy Reid. “He made plays both running and catching the football and was a reliable blocker. Plus, he is committed to donating time and energy in the community. Leonard is an All-Pro on and off the field. We are happy to have him back for the next three seasons.”

The team didn't release specifics about the deal Friday but it was rumored to be worth around $10 to $11 million,  according to reports from NFL Network's Jason La Canfora and Scout.com's Adam Caplan. About half of that green should be guaranteed.

The deal could be worth as much as $11.7 million depending on Weaver's performance, reported ESPN.

Weaver, who was a restricted free agent, was tendered at the second-round level on Thursday night.

The six-year veteran was signed by the Eagles before the 2009 season.

"Dream Weaver" far exceeded most fans expectations. The 27-year-old appeared in all 16 games last season, rushing for 323 yards and receiving for 140 yard while scoring four all-purpose touchdowns.

“Signing Leonard Weaver back was a big priority for us heading into the off-season and we are glad to get that accomplished today," said Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. "Leonard played very well for us last year as a runner, receiver and blocker."

"He was a Pro Bowl performer on and off the field.”
