Allentown Cent. Cath. takes Class AAA title

Quarterback Brendan Nosovitch ran for three scores and connected with Jack Sandherr for a 70-yard pass play on 3rd-and-long to set up the go-ahead touchdown in Allentown Central Catholic's thrilling 28-27 win Friday night over Bishop McDevitt to take the PIAA Class AAA title.

Nosovitch scored from 18 yards out with 2:09 left on the play after the big completion to Sandherr on a drive that nearly stalled deep in Vikings territory.

ACC (16-0) had a third-and-13 from their own 12 when Sandherr made his big catch-and-run.

McDevitt (13-3) later drove from its own 35 to the ACC 40, but blitzing linebacker Teddy Airoldi sacked quarterback Matt Johnson from the blind side on fourth down with less than a minute left.

Nosovitch also threw for a score.

Jameel Poteat ran for a score from three yards with 6:54 left, but McDevitt missed the extra point to keep the score at 27-21.
