Former 76ers Top Pick Loses State House Bid

Bradley hoped to make a bigger splash in politics than he did in the NBA

Former 76ers No. 1 pick (and almost universally accepted draft bust) Shawn Bradley won’t be the tallest member of Utah’s legislature next term.

The 7-foot-6 former NBAer lost his bid to represent Utah’s State House’s 44th District.

Bradley, 38, was hoping to join fellow former Philly athlete -- ex-Eagle Jon Runyan -- as winning Tuesday.

But Bradley -- the No. 2 overall pick in the 1993 NBA Draft -- didn’t enjoy the same success as Runyan who beat Jon Adler in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District race.

Bradley, the Republican challenger, got 3,660 votes (47 percent) to 4,025 (51 percent) votes for Democratic incumbent Tim Cosgrove.

No word on if Bradley -- who played two-plus injury-plagued seasons during his 12 year NBA career -- plans on running for office again.
