New Jersey Lawmakers To Consider Whistleblower Law

New Jersey lawmakers are set to consider legislation aimed at protecting employees who disclose government abuse in the wake of the George Washington Bridge closure scandal.

The New Jersey Senate is expected to vote Thursday on a bill that expands whistle-blower protections to workers who disclose instances of government waste or mismanagement of funds. New Jersey already protects whistle-blowers who uncover instances of legal violations.

Democratic State Sen. Loretta Weinberg says hearings on the George Washington Bridge lane closures opened a window into government abuse.

In a statement, the Senate majority leader says the culture of fear at the Port Authority was so pervasive that many employees acted against their better judgment for four days as traffic gridlocked Fort Lee.
