Panel Eyes Drug-Testing for Public Works Jobs

A state panel is discussing draft legislation regarding drug testing of contractors working on public works projects.

The panel that meets Tuesday was formed because this year's capital budget called for rules and procedures for enforcement of a state drug testing law to be publicized in Delaware.

The law calls for mandatory drug testing programs for all contractor employees and agents working on a job site in non-clerical positions.

The budget bill provision directed the state budget director to convene the panel, which includes two representatives from the Delaware Building and Construction Trades Council and one representative from the Associated Builders and Contractors.

The bill calls for the necessary rules and procedures to be promulgated by Dec. 31.
