DNC Launches Online Portal for Volunteers

The host committee for July's Democratic National Convention on Monday launched an official volunteer registration portal to reach its 10,000-volunteer goal for the four-day event.

The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee, or PHLDNC, needs about 10,000 volunteers for this year's Democratic National Convention, or about the same amount required for Pope Francis' visit last September.

About 7,000 people have already registered to volunteer, executive director Kevin Washo said last month during Visit Philadelphia's New Year's breakfast, just 3,000 volunteers shy of its goal.

The host committee launched the registration system that can be accessed on its revamped volunteer website. The portal is supported by myTRS — The Registration System — which is a woman- and veteran-owned business, according to PHLDNC.

Organizers previously said locals are ideal volunteers since they know how to best navigate the city.
Creating a profile through this portal officially registers individuals for convention volunteer opportunities, PHLDNC said.
