Christie to Keynote RNC: NBC News

Popular Republican NJ governor reported to be the choice for the high-profile GOP convention speech

NBC News reported Wednesday that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will give the keynote address at the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Christie was scheduled Wednesday to meet with Republicans in the U.S. House and also to attend a Washington, D.C. fundraiser for Mitt Romney. The Republican governor is on a two-day fundraising trip for Mitt Romney traveling to Washington, D.C., Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois and Minnesota.

A selection as keynote speaker might indicate that Christie was no longer being considered as a running mate for Romney, who is expected to formally receive his party’s presidential nomination at the Aug. convention. In an interview with ABC News, scheduled for broadcast Thursday, Ann Romney said her husband had yet to settle on a candidate.

“We're not quite there yet,” she said, according to excerpts released by the network.

Romney  held a public rally and private fundraiser Tuesday in western Pa.

The Republican National Convention is Aug. 27-30.
