A bill giving pay raises to members of Gov. Chris Christie's cabinet and tweaking the pension law to benefit some elected officials is scheduled to be introduced and debated publicly for the first time.
The Assembly Budget Committee plans to give the proposal its first hearing on Monday.
No text of the proposal has yet been posted on the state's website.
A draft obtained by The Associated Press shows proposed raises for Christie's top staff of up to $34,000 at the governor's discretion.
The measure also reverses a pension change that kept some government officials from remaining in the state retirement system after changing jobs.
The Republican governor will propose a budget Tuesday that requires a record-high pension payment and addresses a revenue shortfall that could exceed $400 million.
