A group of police officers picked up the check for a couple who didn't want to sit near them at a Pennsylvania restaurant.
A server at the Eat'n Park restaurant in the borough of Homestead told Pittsburgh's WTAE-TV that the couple wanted another table after being brought to a table near the officers Saturday. Officer Chuck Thomas said he told the man and woman that it was OK to sit near his group and that "we won't hurt you." After the couple walked away, he said he and another officer thought they should pay their bill.
The officers wrote on the bill, "thank you for your support."
"Essentially the whole goal of it was to let him know that we're not here to hurt you, we're not here for that," Thomas said, explaining the gesture was part of an effort to create "a better relationship between the community and police."
