An elderly New Jersey man shot his brother-in-law and wife to death before turning the gun on himself, authorities said Wednesday
Authorities say Angelo Talignani went to the Hasbrouck Heights home of his brother-in-law, Anthony Gentile, and took two guns from the Burr Street residence and shot Gentile dead. He then returned to his home just a few houses down the street, fatally shot his wife, Antoinette, in the back of the head as she lay in bed and then turned the gun on himself, Molinelli said.
A home health aide living with Talignani heard the gunshots and called police from a neighbor's home. The guns were legal and authorities are probing whether there was a struggle between Talignani and Gentile. Authorities found Gentile dead when they went to ask him about the Talignanis' death.
Both men were veterans of the Korean War and were both members of their local chapter of veteran's organizations. The killings left friends and neighbors stunned.
"He was a buddy, " said Sal Altomari, a friend. "When you are in the service you stick together. If you can help one another, you help one another."
