Atlantic City Garage Patrols Resume

Atlanticy County prosecutor orders police to resume patrols at Casino garages.

Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel is ordering police back to work at Atlantic City's casino parking garages.

The press of Atlantic City is reporting that Housel issued a prosecutorial directive Thursday, declaring Mayor Lorenzo Langford's order for officers not to patrol the garages null and void. Patrols will, therefore, resume at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The controvery began after Mayor Langford signed an executive order Wednesday demanding the patrols to end. They began 10 days ago after a man was killed and a woman was wounded in a carjacking and robbery at the Trump Taj Mahal parking garage on Sept. 18. It was the second deadly carjacking at the garage in 16 months.

The mayor said in his order that the city government's responsibility is to its residents, "first and foremost."

Deputy Chief Ernest Jubilee and Deputy Chief Henry White told The Press of Atlantic City the new garage patrols would not cost more or snap manpower.
