Truck Brings Down Overhead Wires

Police say one of the trucks snagged an overhead trolley wire, taking down 1/3 of a mile of the wires as well as a light post.

Police are on the scene of an accident in the Wissinoming section of Philadelphia.

It happened late Monday afternoon on the 6200 block of Frankford Avenue. Police say two trucks carrying over-sized loads were traveling through the area. One of the trucks snagged an overhead trolley wire, taking down 1/3 of a mile of the wires as well as a light post.

A 10-year-old boy and a crossing guard were standing nearby at the time of the accident, according to investigators. While police say no one was struck by the wire, they also say the boy complained of some leg pain. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution. No word yet on what caused his injury. No one else was hurt.

Police are currently directing traffic at Frankford and Harbison. Frankford is currently blocked off through Robbins Street.

While the two trucks were cleared to travel through the area, police say overhead wires tend to sag at this time of year as temperatures get warmer. They continue to investigate the accident.
