The family owned handgun that a 13-year-old suburban Philadelphia boy used to end his life was more than 30 years old and had a trigger lock that didn't fit.
The Delaware County district attorney's office said Tuesday that the gun Cayman Naib used to kill himself had a trigger lock, but didn't stop the gun from firing. Investigators are working to determine whether it was legally registered.
The medical examiner's office said Monday that Cayman committed suicide on Wednesday after leaving his Newtown Square home.
Cayman left after receiving a negative school progress report just before a snowstorm. His disappearance triggered a massive search that involved police, the civil air patrol, the FBI and about 200 volunteers.
Cayman's snow-covered body was found Sunday in a shallow creek near his home.
