Police responded to a report of shots fired near West and 2nd streets in Wilmington at 11 p.m. on Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, police say they discovered a 14-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the thigh.
The boy initially told police he had been shot, but authorities say an investigation revealed that the boy had shot himself.
The teen was taken to Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children where he is recovering from his injury.
Police are still working to determine whether the teen is a Delaware resident.
