State police said a science teacher at a northwestern Pennsylvania high school had sex with a 17-year-old student at his home.
Online court records don't list an attorney for 46-year-old Robert Schmidt, who was arraigned Tuesday on charges of corruption of minors and having sexual contact with a student. The girl is old enough to consent to sex in Pennsylvania, but that's still illegal because of the student-teacher relationship.
Penncrest School District Superintendent Constance Youngblood said she can't comment on Schmidt's employment status. Police say he was a teacher at Cambridge Springs Junior/Senior High School when he invited the girl inside his home Dec. 5 and had sex with her.
Schmidt, of McKean, doesn't have a listed phone. He faces a preliminary hearing Feb. 3.
