FedEx Truck Hijacked in Center City

None of the gunmen could drive a stick shift

Philadelphia police are looking for two men who tried to steal a FedEx truck in Center City Friday.

It happened around 4 p.m. at 16th and Pine Streets.

Investigators said two armed suspects pulled up in a red Pontiac behind a FedEx truck while the driver stopped to make a delivery.

Police said the suspects approached the two FedEx workers who were sitting inside the van and robbed them of their cell phones at gunpoint.

Authorities said one of the FedEx workers managed to run away but the armed suspects forced the other worker to drive because none of the gunmen knew how to drive a stick shift.

One of the suspects made the driver stop the van at 11th and Walnut and then ran away on foot.

The FedEx driver was not inured and was later questioned by police.

ā€œI feel very lucky. Iā€™m definitely going back to work. I am not going to stop feeding my children or any of my relatives because of this, ā€œ said one of the Fed Ex workers.

Police said they have partial tag numbers from the getaway car but did not release that information.
