Police officers responding to a report of a hammer attack found the body of a man as well as his injured step-daughter inside a Kensington home Wednesday afternoon.

Police received a call around 4 p.m. claiming a man was attacking a woman with a hammer inside a home on the 2000 block of East Cambria Street.

When police arrived at the home they found a 60-year-old man lying on the floor unresponsive. They also found his 26-year-old step-daughter with a fractured skull who appeared to have been struck in the head with a hammer.

The man was taken to Episcopal Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. Officials have not yet revealed his identity.

Police say the man had a history of heart problems and was on dialysis. They also say there were no visible signs of trauma on his body. Investigators are unsure at this time whether his medical conditions played a role in his death.

The man's step-daughter was taken to Temple University Hospital where she is currently in stable condition.
