1 Arrested for Caught on Cam Attack of Student in Philly School Bathroom: Officials

One person was arrested in connection to a caught on camera attack of a student inside the bathroom of a Philadelphia high school.

In the video which was shared on social media, a group of girls attack another girl and repeatedly punch her in the head. A Philadelphia School District spokesperson confirmed with NBC10 the incident occurred on January 27 at Northeast High School.

The student who was attacked later reposted the video and added her voiceover. In the clip, which has been shared over 54,000 times since it was posted on Facebook Sunday, the girl describes the attack and speaks out against bullying.

“I was locked in my school bathroom by four girls and beaten until I lost consciousness,” the girl says. “While being unconscious, they kicked, hit, taunted me and recorded it on video. No one came to help me or tried to get help. I never had the chance to defend myself because as you can clearly see in the video I was unconscious and unable to fight.”

The girl claimed that one of her attackers was arrested for aggravated assault. She also claimed however that the other three attackers continue to attend school but did not receive any punishment due to lack of evidence.

“My school has a clear video of all four girls following me into the bathroom before the attack and says it’s not enough to expel them,” the girl says. “My question is, what about my testimony? And why isn’t bullying a criminal act? I refuse to be held hostage by this video and my fear. I will not be a victim. I will post this video every day until something is done for all the people who continue to experience this type of humiliation.”

The cousin of the girl who was attacked also claimed family members of the attackers applauded their actions on social media.

A School District spokesperson told NBC10 that action was taken against the students involved in the attack, though she did not reveal whether they were suspended or expelled. Another spokesperson also told NBC10 one of the students was arrested in connection to the incident. The spokesperson also claimed the incident appeared to have “originated as a dispute between two families.”
