And the fireworks will dazzle on!  Penn’s Landing’s New Year’s Eve fireworks are a-go thanks to money from both public and private sponsors.

The  18-year waterfront tradition was on the verge of being canceled due to the city’s budget crisis.

“We had to do something.  The people in this region deserve to celebrate what they hope will be a brighter new year,” Penn’s Landing Corporation Acting President, Joseph Brooks said.

Penn’s Landing Corporation said Wednesday it has enough money now from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, Penn’s Landing Corporation, and private sponsors PRWT Services, Inc., the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia, and the Moshulu.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was first to ante up with a challenge grant.  Then, local corporations and organizations stepped up to the plate with contributions.

“We are excited to support the fireworks celebration and we are proud to become part of the New Year’s Eve tradition for thousands of residents and visitors throughout the Philadelphia region,” Sherri Kyl-Jones, PRWT Services, Inc. Senior VP of Communications said.

The free New Year’s Eve fireworks show at Penn’s Landing will be held, of course, at midnight, December 31.
