Phila. Ranks Low Among Major Cities for July 4 Travel: Report

Americans are taking advantage of the falling gasoline and airfare prices to travel for the Fourth of July weekend, but they're not necessarily flocking to the city where all began, according to a new report.

Gasoline prices this year are expected to be about 86 cents a gallon cheaper this year than last year, and the average domestic airfare is $14 cheaper than last year as well, according to a report by Priceline.com, meaning this year's July 4th weekend is already on track to be more budget friendly.

According to Priceline's annual list of the top 50 destinations for the Fourth of July, Philadelphia is No. 33 – a ranking based on the total number of hotel reservations set for the city during the holiday weekend.

The list puts Philly far behind other East Coast cities like Washington, D.C., New York and Boston, indicating visitors are choosing not to visit the City of Brotherly Love or they plan to stay with family or friends.
