Outdoor Show Cancelled Due to Weapons Controversy

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg will not be held this year

A popular Pennsylvania outdoors show that was postponed indefinitely because of a controversy over assault weapons will not be rescheduled this year.

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show had been scheduled to start Feb. 2 at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

But its ban on assault weapons in the wake of a Connecticut school shooting led to a backlash and vendor boycott. Organizers indefinitely postponed the event last month.

On Thursday, state officials who run the Farm Show Complex said the show would not be held this year.

An Agriculture Department spokeswoman tells the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era that officials hope to hold a show of similar size in February 2014.

Reed Exhibitions, which operates the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, could not be reached for comment.
