Organization Donates Protective Vests To Del. K-9 Unit

Three months from now, Delaware police K-9 unit dogs will don new body armor, designed to protect them from bullet and stab wounds thanks to Vested Interest in K9s Inc.

The Massachusetts-based organization, specializing in providing protective gear for canines in the line duty, awarded the potentially lifesaving vests to the New Castle police department law enforcement dogs.

The organization raised more than $11,000 in 2015 calendar sales, by selling more than 1300 calendars throughout the country.

Each vest costs $950 and has a five year warranty.

The nonprofit organization was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies in providing bullet and knife-proof jackets for canines in need. Since then, Vested Interested in K9s, Inc. has issued bulletproof vests to more than 1,200 police dogs in the nation.

Currently, the organization is selling items on its website to support the cause. All proceeds from the sales will go toward providing K-9 officers with bullet and stab resistant armor.
