Federal officials want to fine a defunct Pennsylvania woodworking company nearly $68,000 for the electrocution death of a roofer- and then sending another worker to finish the job "under the same hazardous conditions" three days later.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration says Kolek Woodshop Inc. of East Deer Township let the worker, 58-year-old Andrew Sakala, use an aluminum ladder which touched a 7,200-volt power line in September.
John Kolek, the shop's owner, tells The Associated Press that he's since shut down the business, not because of the accident but because he's now 79 years old.
Kolek said the worker in question decided to use the ladder because some scaffolding wasn't working.
Kolek said he hoped to challenge all or some of the proposed fines.
