An elderly woman and her daughter were arrested for animal cruelty after police say they found three dozen cats inside their Hatboro home.

It happened at a house on East Monument Avenue. Police say they condemned the house on Thursday, removed the homeowners and the cats after finding the house filled with feces and urine last Friday.

The homeowners, 85-year-old Elwine Kimball and her daughter, 51-year-old Diana Kimball were charged with 72 counts of animal cruelty and two counts of conspiracy. Prosecutors say the two were hoarding cats inside their home. They also say many of the animals are in need of veterinary care.
Officials say they had to wear hazmat suits while cleaning the house for five hours.

The cats are currently being cared for by the Montgomery County SPCA. The cats won’t be available for adoption until the case is resolved. The mother and daughter are scheduled for a summary trial towards the end of August.
