Woman Shot After Attacking Owner in West Philly Bar: Police

A bar owner shot a woman he claimed was attacking him early Saturday morning in a West Philly bar.

Police responded to the 601 Bar, located at the corner of 56th Street and Wyalusing Avenue, at 2:50 a.m. for a report of a man being assaulted by a woman.

When they arrived they were met by the 71-year-old owner who told police he shot a woman after she attacked him. The 33-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to her right thigh and was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she is currently in stable condition.

The owner told police he had a permit to carry. His weapon was recovered at the scene.

The owner was taken to Mercy Hospital and treated for several bites and bruises he suffered during the initial attack, according to police.

The owner has not been charged. Police continue to investigate the incident.
